You've got a new message from an "Evita" actor

November 8th, 2019

Recently iStage musical theatre Select Group student Celine C. was selected as one of the child actors at West End Musical "Evita" global tour and performed at Shanghai Culture Square Theatre, we would like to say huge congratulations to Celine! Musical “Evita” was composed and written by Andrew Lloyd Weber whose productions include very well knows “Cat” and “School of Rock” - a recent hit in Shanghai, as well as Tim Rice.

We interviewed Celine about her feeling and experience participating in a professional commercial production, she was super excited to share her experience and some back stage secret with iStage family!

iStage Academy:
Congrats on your first West End show! How did it go? What were you feeling at the stage looking at all those audience.

Celine:
When I was on the stage, I was so scared! I thought maybe I was going to do something wrong but then it turned out great! Everything was perfect, everything was in order! When I came out, I didn't expect so many people! All of the seats were filled, everything became sooo amazing afterwards.

iStage Academy: It must have been super fun, did you take some selfies? You did! Didn't you! Haha send us some photos you took.

Celine:
Of course! I invited all my friends in for a group selfie! I loved it!

iStage Academy: lol students keep asking if you got paid for it.

Celine:
Sorry.. I can't really tell you about it.

iStage Academy:
Tell us more about how you got into the show. We're curious about it.

Celine:
The interview went really great. i was on holiday in the US, i had to do an online audition and sang 2 English songs and I had to send out some files to London.

iStage Academy:
Which one is your favorite character and why? Which was your favorite scene and why?

Celine:
Evita! Because she's the main role and she gets lots of important sing parts and I love lots of her songs! Also, my favorite scene was the part where me and my friends/companions run to the stage and freeze, freeze for 2 mins, no moving!

iStage Academy:
How long did you prepare for the show and how was their training?

Celine:
We had no training. I had to do 3 days of straight performances. I just had from morning to night practicing, when I got home, I also had to prepare my movements, dialogues, actions and everything. It was also really fun at the end. We had to memorize the songs right before we even came there. 3 weeks ago, I already memorized the songs before the Evita show. I was the most fluent one!!

iStage Academy:
You've done a lot of performances with us and you absolutely made a huge improvement over years of practices. I wonder how you apply all those experiences to professional West End shows like this.

Celine:
Yes! iStage helped me a lot. You were my start. I started acting when I was 6 at iStage. Everything I learned was from iStage. I really appreciate iStage teaching me all this, you taught me how to become a more professional actress.

iStage Academy:
How did you feel about West End production?

Celine:
For Evita, you were choosen to be in Shanghai tour which is a big deal! you had to memorize all those important speeches, you had to pronounce it correctly. they were also very strict!

iStage Academy:
If you were going to be a professional stage actor, what have you learned from them?

Celine:
I learned a lot from them! They didn't just memorize the lines, they were really involved. I could feel the all engery coming. when i saw their emotions, it was very overwhelming!

iStage Academy:
How do you think it will help you in the future?

Celine:
I need to really precise! I won't be nervous that much! I'll become much more confident and brave!
